Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How much does it cost?

A. The cost will vary depending on the type of training you decide on. Sessions will range anywhere from ~$8 up to $~$31/session.

Q. What about rescheduling or canceling a session?

A. If you need to cancel out of a session or reschedule, you can do so in our mobile app up to 30 minutes before the start of the session.

Q. Will I lose my sessions if I reschedule/cancel?

A. As long as you remove yourself from the schedule 30 minutes before the start of the session, it will be credited back to your account so you can reschedule.

Q. What if I’m traveling?

A. For our semi-private clients, we have a mobile app that gives us the ability to send you workouts through your smartphone.

This way you will never miss a beat, even when you are out of town or traveling.

Q. What’s the scheduling window like?

A. You have to make sure to schedule outside of four hours before the start of the session for semi-private training.

Q. What are the qualifications of your personal trainers?

A. All of our trainers have multiple years of personal training experience.  We have certifications with the NSCA, the top certifying agency for personal trainers.  We also have a couple of trainers with Kinesiology (exercise science degrees).  Being that we are a personal training studio, and not a big box gym, our trainers are truly dedicated to their craft.

Q. Who is your Semi-Private Personal Training for?

A. Our semi-private personal training is for the majority of the clients that walk through our doors. If you have a specific goal you want to achieve, are new or fairly novice to exercising, are unsure of what you should be doing in the gym, want strict instruction on proper form, aren’t consistent with working out, need to better understand nutrition, are goal driven; then semi-private personal training is what you need.

Q. What’s the benefit of training with your studio over somewhere else?

A. The main benefit is the quality of training and experience you will receive at the studio.  You aren’t “just another number” like most other places.  Our studio also provides that small community atmosphere that makes most people feel comfortable while working out.  There will be no more than 6 semi-privates in a session at one time.

Q. Do you charge extra for diet planning?

A. For our semi-private clients, nutrition planning and consults are included with the service.

Q. Will I work with the same trainer every time?

A. The beauty of our scheduling system is that you can adjust your schedule to work out whenever need be.  Some days you may come in the mornings, and some in the evenings.  With our semi-private personal training you will train with different trainers depending on the day or time.  However, you will still have your very own personalized workout, which any of our trainers can walk and guide you through.

Q. Is there a money back guarantee?

A. Yes.  We offer a 30 day money back guarantee.  Most of our clients stay with us for a long time, and we want them to be here.  We want to provide you with the best possible service.  If you did not feel like we provided the right type of service for you, you can cancel within 30 days and receive your money back.

Q. What’s included in your personal training programs?

A. Semi-private clients receive customized workouts, nutritional consults, and monthly measurements.  Our semi-private personal training is geared towards those that need guidance, want specific results, or need to learn how to lift weights properly.

Q. What should I expect when coming in for my initial consult?

A. Make sure you wear comfortable workout clothes.  You will first fill out a brief exercise and medical history questionnaire for us.  After that we will talk about your goals.  We will then go through a brief workout and assessment.  This will help us see where your fitness level is at, and see some of your strengths and/or weaknesses.  We will finish up by sitting down and providing you with the best training option based off of your goals and our assessment.

Q. What should I expect on my first day of training?

When you come in for your first day, we would prefer that you start upstairs on a treadmill or elliptical for a few minutes before the session starts to get your heart rate up a bit.  After that you can come downstairs and one of our trainers will walk you through our dynamic warmup.  After this, they will show you how to perform the rest of your workout.  That’s it!

Q. What happens in a typical personal training session?

A. We will normally have you perform some cardio (treadmill, elliptical, etc.) if you are a few minutes early.  Once the hour hits, we have you start your dynamic warmup (we’ll show you what this is).  After that your trainer will show you what you need to be doing throughout your workout.  Once you’re done, you can finish with a little stretch and then head out.

Q. What do I need to bring/wear?

A. Just comfortable workout clothes.  Everybody wears something a little different so it’s really up to you.

Q. What should I eat before a workout?

A. Something light is always good before a workout.  A protein shake or a simple carbohydrate for some quick energy before the start of the workout is good.

Q. What should I eat after a workout?

A. Generally you can have something a little more carb dense, but you will want some protein as well.  A protein shake blended with a banana is a perfect combination.

Q. Why can’t I just do cardio?

A. Cardio is only good for weight loss to start.  However, when you lose weight you also lose muscle mass.  Muscle mass is the only thing that will give you the toned look most people want.  You have to lift weights to maintain, if not build, muscle while you get in shape.

Q. What kind of clients do you have at your fitness facility?

A. Our clients range from beginners to advanced.  Completely out of shape to in shape.  We also have a wide age range from the 20’s into the 60’s.

Q. Where do you offer your personal training?

A. Our personal training is offered at our physical location in the fan.  It’s at 2609 W. Cary Street, Richmond, VA 23220.

Q. Where can I place my things at when I work out?

A. We have a cubby as you enter the training area where you can place your belongings while you work out.

Q. Do you have showers?

A. Yes we have a shower both upstairs and downstairs.  So if you need to shower before you head into work, that’s not a problem.

Q. Why don’t my workouts ever get easier?

A. If you want to improve your body and shape, the workouts will progressively increase in difficulty as you get into better shape.  If you don’t progress your workouts, you won’t get any better.

Q. Which should I do first; cardio or weights?

A. Preferably weights.  We don’t want you to lose energy for the most important part of training (i.e. strength training).  It’s best to get your strength training in first, then perform cardio after if you need to.  It won’t be the end of the world if you do cardio first, however you won’t have as much energy and your legs may be tired.

Q. What’s the best diet for weight loss?

A. The one that is most consistent for you.  It doesn’t really matter the diet you’re on, low carb, low fat, etc.  It really just depends on if you can be consistent in the long run.  We prefer our clients to not go on a specific diet, but make progressive changes over time.  There is no one quick fix diet.

Q. How long do the sessions last?

A. Our sessions are scheduled for an hour long for our semi-private sessions.

Q. How long will it take for me to see results?

A. You will generally see some results in your first month training with us.  However, this will all depend on the amount of effort you put in.  You can see great results in only a few months if your training and diet are in check.  You can’t expect to see great results if you don’t put in the work with cardio, strength training, and nutrition.

Q. How many times a week will I meet with my trainer?

A. Ideally you should meet with a trainer at least 3x/week.  For those that are very results-driven, we would recommend our 4x or 5x/week options.

Q. Do you have all the necessary equipment?

A. Yes.  We have everything from cardio equipment, to strength training equipment.

Q. If I’m new to exercising which service should I choose?

A. If you need some real guidance, our semi-private personal training is our best service.  It will teach you how to work out and why we work out.

Q. What style of training do you provide (military, etc.)?

A. Our trainers are generally easy going, but we will push you.  We want you to enjoy your experience while you train at ReDefineRVA.  Everybody needs to be pushed, and we will do that, but in a positive way.

Q. Why should I choose you over another studio?

A. We pride ourselves on offering a true lifestyle of fitness to our clients.  Our semi-private personal training provides strength training, cardio, and nutrition accountability.  At most other places you really only get one thing or the other.  We provide you all the necessary tools, whether you’re at our physical location or traveling, to get the results you need.  We also have a very comfortable community feel to the studio.  Everybody gets to know everybody, and our small group environment helps deliver a great experience.

Q. I need help with nutrition, what do you provide that can help me with that?

A. Our semi-private personal training clients receive nutritional consults as part of the service.  We also have a nutrition accountability program where we check in with you each week to make sure you’re staying on track.  It is not a required program, but if you’re serious about results our trainers will keep you on track.

Q. What fitness level do I need to be at to start?

A. It doesn’t matter your fitness level.  We have training programs customized for wherever you start. We always like to stay that it doesn’t matter where you start, only that you start.

Q. How often are the sessions held?

A. Sessions are held throughout the day morning and evenings.  Generally from 5am-11am and 4pm-8pm each weekday.  Then 8am-11am Saturday and Sunday.
